Positive Activities

What young people do or don't do, out of school matters.  To find out more about this the DCSF have introduced an indicator to help measure young people's participation in positive activities.

As part of the data collection the DCSF have been piloting the use of the indicator questions through CCIS (Client Caseload Information System) and want to ensure that data is collected routinely in every local authority area for 2009 - 10, through the Connexions Partnerships.

To assist the Connexions Partnerships in doing this CareerVision, in partnership with ABBYY Software have put together the PIPA Bundle. This provides a speedy and accurate means of inputting masses of data to the appropriate sections of Core+ (our CCIS database, which has been developed in line with the new requirements).

Data is collected from the young people using forms which, on completion, are scanned through the ABBYY scanning software to create an XML file which is then imported to Core+ using our PIPA Import Program.   Once the data has been imported to Core+, reports can be written to provide a summary of the results to provide local trends.

Our PIPA Bundle (Or Import Program alone) comes complete with a set of survey templates for the collection of Positive Activities Data.
